To welcome the New Year with new beginnings, Google preannounced the first core release of January. With its release on 13th January, the search algorithm is now to bring major changes in the various Google data centers. The subsequent days will be seeing the rollout of this update. As per the policy initiated by Google in 2019, it stated to preannounce the updates and confirm the roll-out as they go live with the changes. Sticking to the same, we were expecting Google Core Update January 2020.
The update simply named as “January 2020 core update” is a broad core update, which will impact the search results on a global level.
Google explains how this update will work stating:
“One way to think of how a core update operates is to imagine you made a list of the top 100 movies in 2015. A few years later in 2019, you refresh the list. It’s going to naturally change. Some new and wonderful movies that never existed before will now be candidates for inclusion. You might also reassess some films and realize they deserved a higher place on the list than they had before.”
By this, we can infer that the search results that have been in the top position may lose their position but that doesn’t mean they have less valuable information, only that the new information getting a new rank has been ignored for a long time despite having additional knowledge. This directly concludes that the content all over the internet will be reassessed and ranked as per the quality of information since the last update. The content that was overlooked can now expect noticeable effects. This will directly impact the rankings. There can be gain and loss of the ranks depending on your web content.
If you lose your rank, you must check for the content on your competitor website that has replaced you. This will help you learn as to how you can improve by adding more valuable information.
Here are the highlights of the broad core update of Google:
- Google preannounced its broad core update hence maintaining the transparency of communication that started in 2019.
- The broad core update is a change in the core search algorithm itself.
- The update went live on 13th January 2020 and will now be rolling out to data centers in the coming days.
- The pages that were overlooked earlier will be reassessed for their content published after the last Google update hence causing loss and gain of ranks on the search engines.
- The impact is expected to be major but is not yet established.
Let’s stay tuned for the results that the broad core update will introduce. If it impacts your rank negatively, you can look for the concerned answers provided by Google.
